A: Humans and animals all have a spirit. A plant is in between humans and non-organic things, like stones or soil, so we can say that a plant has a semi-spirit. Once a plant dries up, that’s it (meaning the semi-spirit has left). Once in a while, a plant is possessed by an animal spirit. If the plant is cut, the spirit will cause problems. A plant actually understands human words. One gardener told me that if a tree doesn’t bloom, he threatens to cut it down. I had such a tree in my garden so I asked it to please bloom again and again.
